about team 404

team 404
Team404 is a collaboration of artists, whose origin came from the class of John Armleder in Braunschweig University of Arts, Germany. It’s a group of people realizing art-projects in an uncommon way mostly dealing with pop-culture elements. On its way from 1994 when this collaboration started, till now, team404 has curated, built and organized exhibitions all over the world always in collaboration with museums, galleries and independent art-spaces. Team404 expands steadily because you get an alltime membership once you have stepped into by taking part in an art project. One characteristic item of team404 exhibitions is the fact that we try to present an idea in which other artists are involved. Please see the NEWS for our freshest plans.

Yellow Pages

“… If you let your fingers do the walking through these Yellow Pages, you won’t find that plumber you’re looking for, but you will plumb an inviting exercise in Conceptual art from Swiss artist, prankster, performer, and teacher John Armleder. He and his class at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Braunschweig, Germany, who call themselves Team404, solicited original graphic works made on A4 paper from over 500 artists (Corrie Colbert, Sylvie Fleury, Thomas Hirschhorn, Odili Donald Odita, Michael Snow)--"be it a text, sketch, drawing, picture, or whatever suits your mind," the letter said. The works were displayed in a gallery, then each was randomly put together with another artist’s work to be reproduced as a black double print on yellow paper…

Frozen Microwave Music

Gasthof at Manifesta, Frankfurt a.M, Germany (in collab. with Villa Magica Records)

A recording of a live-performance where frozen meals (we freshly cooked during another performance 4 weeks before) were served from an orchestra of Microwave ovens, which were affixed with contact microphones. ”…Originally a 3-hour live performance by John Armleder and Team404, this 74 minutes of musical experimentation with microwaves as instruments project, is definitely groundbreaking. The piece basically consists of a live electronic composition based on heating deep-frozen meals with an orchestra of twelve microwave ovens attached with suction-cap microphones and a conductor unsealing the packaged dishes with a pair of scissors connected to a microphone as well…”
